Inside Out
This work is part of my exploration of what it means to say “I”.
I revisit episodes of hyper self-awareness that I experienced in my childhood, during which I would start thinking about myself thinking about myself, in a self-feeding feedback loop that would quickly spiral out of control. I revisit this experience by taking selfportraits with a pinhole camera, with exposure times up to 30 minutes. Depending on the type of film I use, the long exposure times can strongly saturate the colors.
Douglas Hofstadter’s cognitive theories have greatly influenced me. The photographs of Cindy Sherman and Francesca Woodman continue to be a source of inspiration.
